Well to be honest, the 10k I did earlier today for my community college did not start out as in remembrance for Boston. Exactly seven days ago I was given the news, "Taylor, you are going to run the 10k next week."
NOTE: 10K IS 25 LAPS
I seriously wanted to laugh at my coach, but of course being the great actress that I am I responded, "You got it coach."
The first day after that I ran an hour and I kept thinking "Those twenty-five laps are going to be the end of me." Then the bombing at Boston happened, and when things like that happen it seems like time stands still. That we're reminded that we're human and that horrible things do happen for uncertain reasons. My heart and condolences go out to everyone that was affected in some way by this occurance.
After Monday I went with the attitude of, "Hey it's twenty-five laps. You can do this. Do it for Boston!" Now I was also hyperventilating the night before, and plagued with the though that I would be running so slow that the officials would ask me off the track before I finished the race.
Today, my team and I arrived fifteen minutes before the 10k. The other teams were waiting for us. Can you believe it? So we just went for it. My coach looked me in the eye and said, "Taylor just finish."
No warm up paired with the fastest potty break in the history of all potty breaks and a quick prayer sent up to God and the race before I could check if my laces were tied. By lap 7 I was able to look down and check.
After 55 minutes of thinking, "Why am I here? Why am I here?" I was finished. It felt great. I took a nap and watched my coach race the steeple- which apparently I am running next week as well! Sad note: I didn't get my team any additional points!!!! SORRY GUYS!!!!!
On another note there is a guy on my distance team who always asks if I blog about him. Finally I can respond: yes. Here's your shout out Eli in a haiku poem just for you.
Eli is so sly
He runs so fast he could fly
His eyes are pretty
Sunday is tomorrow, I'm shooting a music video for my college Christian group. Hopefully.
Peace out!
